On 23 November 2025, the Filipino-Australian community came together in a remarkable display of unity, generosity, and cultural pride as the Philippine Australian Social Club for Good Governance Incorporated (PASCGGI) hosted its very first Christmas Party at Pabico. The event, filled with camaraderie, entertainment, and community spirit, successfully raised $3,500.00 through a charity auction—funds that have since been channelled to two designated beneficiaries in the Philippines.

Led by the organisation’s dedicated officers, PASCGGI ensured that every dollar donated made its way to communities most affected by the devastating impacts of Typhoon Tino, which recently struck various regions in the Visayas. Following careful assessment and coordination with local contacts, the funds were divided between two locations:

$2,000 allocated to Cebu, supporting immediate Typhoon Tino relief operations
$1,500 allocated to Leyte, directed towards outreach activities and the completion of a kindergarten school ceiling damaged during the disaster

These contributions aim to provide both urgent assistance and long-term support to families rebuilding their lives.

With the support of Filipino organisations across every Australian state and territory, this petition calls on Australia to consider taking on the role of host country should the International Criminal Court (ICC) approve Mr. Duterte’s conditional release during ongoing proceedings related to his administration’s war on drugs.

Far from being a political campaign, this is a humanitarian appeal grounded in the values of due process, compassion, and international legal fairness. It reflects a nuanced understanding of Australia’s respected role on the global stage and highlights the Filipino diaspora’s trust in Australia’s rule of law, justice system, and commitment to upholding human rights.

Legal Background and Community Concerns

Rodrigo Roa Duterte, now 80 years old, faces proceedings before the ICC over allegations tied to extrajudicial killings during his presidency, particularly linked to his aggressive anti-drug campaign. While these charges are undeniably serious, PASCGGI and its supporters assert that interim release does not pre-judge guilt or innocence. Rather, it ensures humane treatment during judicial processes, particularly when age, medical conditions, and willingness to cooperate are evident.

In light of Mr. Duterte’s arrest and transfer to ICC custody on 11 March 2025, questions have been raised by some sectors in the Philippines about the legality and due process surrounding his detention. In this context, PASCGGI contends that Australia’s involvement would offer a stabilising force, ensuring Duterte’s rights are preserved while allowing the ICC’s legal process to unfold with dignity and oversight.

Critics of the appeal might argue that offering an interim release to an accused figure like Duterte sets a dangerous precedent. The petitioners counter this by stating that interim release is not immunity. It is not a denial of justice but an affirmation of humane legal treatment, consistent with global legal standards.

A key moment in her journey was her visit to the House of Musa at Angels’ Haven, a beautiful and meaningful reminder of the transformative power of community and philanthropy.

The children at the Angels’ Haven facility were proudly wearing their Just Breathe shirts, a unique and heartfelt design created by the Founder of The Musa Advocacy, Ms. Joy Soo. These shirts, made possible by proceeds from various fashion shows, serve as a testament to the ongoing support of incredible model advocates who believe in the cause. The Just Breathe shirts are more than just clothing—they represent hope, strength, and the collective effort of those working to make a positive change in the world.

The visit to Angels’ Haven was just one of the many stops Christina Aguilar made during her extensive outreach tour, where she connected with communities, supported underprivileged children, and made meaningful visits that brought joy and encouragement.

A Day of Giving Back: Christina Aguilar’s Journey Across the Philippines

The first stop on Aguilar’s outreach tour was in the municipality of Baybay, Leyte, where she met with the mayor, Jose Carlos L Cari, and Baybay Tourism and Investment Promotion Officer Josefina K. Granada-Gutierrez for a courtesy call. This was followed by a visit to the nearby Cawag area in Subic, Zambales, where she joined in a heartwarming feeding program for children living near the local garbage dumpsite. Continuing her outreach efforts, Christina made visits to two official Mrs. Universe schools. Recognising the importance of providing hope and solidarity for individuals who are incarcerated, Christina took the time to engage with the inmates, offering words of encouragement and reminding them that they, too, deserve a second chance and a better life. Her visit was a powerful reminder of the importance of rehabilitation and giving people the opportunity to turn their lives around.

Christina’s final stop took her to visit the indigenous Aeta communities in the Philippines, where she connected with local families who are often overlooked by mainstream society.
